At the 2024 Paris Olympics, basketball events set a new overall attendance record with 1,078,319 spectators for both men’s and women’s tournaments, surpassing the previous record of 1,068,032 set at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Despite hosting only 52 games—40 fewer than in Atlanta—the Paris Games achieved an average attendance of 20,737 per match.
The Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve d’Ascq drew 876,686 fans for the football venue adapted for basketball, reaching 91.8% of its capacity. The 18 men’s games averaged 25,983 spectators per match, while the 18 women’s games averaged 22,813 per match. The record for a women’s basketball game in Europe was set at 27,193 at this venue.
Following this, the Bercy Arena in Paris, with a reduced capacity of 13,000, hosted 201,633 spectators with attendances ranging from 11,852 to 12,454 per match.
Additionally, the 3×3 basketball tournament held at Place de la Concorde saw sell-out crowds of 4,000 spectators per session over seven days, totaling 72,000 attendees. This was the first live audience for the 3×3 event since its Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020.
