Jaylen Brown responds to Bronny James’ summer league video by expressing his eagerness to witness James’ development and growth.

In a viral video from Monday night, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown appeared to suggest that he does not view Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James as a professional player yet. Brown was courtside at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas for the Celtics’ summer league game against the Lakers, accompanied by his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, and Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese.

Later, Brown addressed the video on social media, expressing his enthusiasm for watching James’s development over time.

Bronny James, selected as the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, had a modest performance in the Lakers’ 88-74 loss to Boston, scoring two points on 1-for-5 shooting, with three rebounds, one assist, and two turnovers in 25 minutes. Throughout the summer league, James has struggled with his shooting, going 0-for-15 from three-point range. Despite this, he won’t turn 20 until October and was drafted as a defense-first project player.

Lakers coach JJ Redick recently discussed James’s role on SiriusXM NBA Radio, emphasizing that James is being viewed as a developmental player. Redick noted that James will spend time with both the Lakers and their G League affiliate, focusing on defensive skills and ball pressure. Redick described James as having a strong defensive instinct and mentioned that the team plans to develop his shooting and ball-handling skills.
