NBA stars LeBron James, Dennis Schroder, and Giannis Antetokounmpo made history by serving as flag bearers for their respective nations at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
Representing the USA, Germany, and Greece respectively, James of the Lakers, Schroder of the Nets, and Antetokounmpo of the Bucks led their countries’ delegations in a symbolic moment along the River Seine. This marked the first time basketball players had been chosen for such a prestigious role in their countries’ Olympic history, underscoring the honor bestowed upon James, Schroder, and Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo and Greece are positioned in Group A of the Olympic basketball tournament alongside Canada, Australia, and Spain, a challenging group often referred to as the ‘Group of Death’. Schroder’s Germany, the reigning World Champions, competes in Group B with host nation France, Brazil, and Japan. Meanwhile, James and Team USA are in Group C with Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico.
The basketball action begins on July 27 at the Pierre de Mauroy Stadium in Lille for the qualifying rounds, followed by the quarterfinals through to the medal rounds at Bercy Arena in Paris.
